Digitising your old films, tapes and photographs preserves what is there — but sometimes the original material can benefit from a little extra work.

Our Video & Photo Enhancement service can improve digitised 8mm and Super 8 film, video footage, photographs, slides and negatives to create a cleaner, more enjoyable version for viewing and sharing.

We work carefully to improve the image while still preserving the character of the original recording or photograph.
 

8mm & Super 8 Film Enhancement

Old film can suffer from fading, colour shifts, flicker, instability, grain and other signs of age.
 

Depending on the condition of the footage, enhancement may include:

• Colour and white-balance correction

• Brightness, contrast and exposure adjustment

• Image stabilisation to reduce movement and jitter

• Noise and grain reduction

• Careful sharpening and detail enhancement

• Reduction of dust, marks and minor imperfections where possible

• Cropping and framing adjustments

• Trimming unwanted blank footage at the beginning or end

• General editing and preparation for modern viewing
   

For important footage, we can keep the original digitised master untouched and create a separate enhanced version. This means you retain the most faithful digital copy of the original film as well as a version optimised for viewing.

Older photographs and scanned images can often be significantly improved digitally.
 

Enhancement can include:

• Restoring faded colours

• Correcting colour casts

• Exposure and contrast correction

• Dust and minor scratch removal

• Reducing noise and grain

• Sharpening

• Straightening and cropping

• Repairing minor marks and imperfections

• AI-assisted image enhancement where appropriate

We aim to improve the photograph while keeping it looking natural rather than overly processed.
 

Original + Enhanced Copies

For preservation work, we recommend keeping two versions whenever possible:

Original Master

A faithful digital copy of the original film, video or photograph with minimal alteration.

Enhanced Copy

A separately processed version designed to look its best for viewing, sharing and enjoying today.

This gives you the benefit of modern enhancement while ensuring the original digital transfer is preserved.
 

Every Project Is Different

The amount of improvement possible depends heavily on the condition and quality of the original material.

Enhancement can improve many problems, but it cannot recreate information that was never captured or has been completely lost through damage, severe blur, overexposure or deterioration.

For this reason, enhancement and editing work is quoted individually after we have seen the footage or images.
