All our standard video conversions are upscaled to 720p/1080p.

What does Upscaling do?

Stretches the Image: It expands the low-resolution VHS image to fit a 1080p frame, preventing pixelation.

Digitising and upscaling preserves the content, making it viewable on current devices.

In short, upscaling makes your VHS look as good as possible on a 1080p screen by cleaning up imperfections and fitting the frame, but it's an enhancement, not a miracle cure for the original low resolution.

We also push the image through Time Base Correction (TBC) equipment which is highly effective at correcting tearing, flag-waving, and signal instabilities found in poor-quality or degraded tapes.

We use a mixture of Elgato Blackmagic, high end capture cards and Time Base Correction (TBC) hardware.

We can also convert NTSC and repair broken tapes.

🎥 Why FireWire Transfers Matter for MiniDV & Digital8 Tapes

When we convert MiniDV and Digital8 (Hi8 Digital) tapes, we don’t treat them like old analogue formats — because they aren’t. These tapes already store video in a digital format, so the best possible way to preserve them is to transfer the data directly.

We use professional FireWire (IEEE-1394) capture, which copies the video digitally from the tape to the computer with no analogue conversion in between.

This means:

✅ No quality loss
✅ Perfect frame-for-frame transfer
✅ Original audio preserved exactly
✅ No signal degradation from analogue capture
✅ The closest possible result to the original recording

Many cheaper services convert these tapes through analogue outputs, which reduces quality unnecessarily. By keeping the process fully digital from start to finish, we ensure you receive the highest quality version your tapes can provide.

Your memories deserve the best possible transfer — and for MiniDV & Digital8, FireWire is the gold standard.
