Why We Don’t Copy Your Video Conversions to DVD

Many people ask if we can put their converted videos onto a DVD.
The simple answer is: we don’t recommend it.
Years ago, DVDs were the standard way to watch family videos. But today, they are no longer the best format for preserving your memories.
DVDs Don’t Hold Enough Data
At Video to Digital Conversions, we capture and save your footage at a much higher quality than a standard DVD can handle.
A standard single-layer DVD only holds 4.7GB of data, and even a dual-layer DVD only holds around 8.5GB.
Because we use high-quality digital files and higher bitrates to preserve as much detail as possible, many tapes simply will not fit on a DVD without compressing them heavily.
For example:
One longer VHS tape can often create a file larger than a DVD can hold
A batch of several tapes may require many separate DVDs
Higher quality MiniDV, Digital8 or slide scans can be far too large for DVD
DVDs Mean Lower Quality
To fit your videos onto a DVD, the files usually have to be compressed down into the old DVD-Video format.
That means:
❌ Lower picture quality
❌ Less detail
❌ More compression artifacts
❌ Softer image on modern TVs
This is especially noticeable when watching older tapes on today’s large HD and 4K televisions.
We purposely avoid this because we want your memories preserved at the best quality possible.
USB Is Better in Every Way
Instead of DVDs, we provide your files on USB drives.
A USB drive can hold:
✔ Much larger files
✔ Higher quality video
✔ Multiple tapes on one drive
✔ Easy playback on modern TVs, computers and media players
You can also make copies, back up your files, or share them with family.
For larger jobs, we can keep adding future batches onto the same USB so everything stays together.
Modern TVs Rarely Use DVDs
Many new TVs, laptops and computers no longer even have a DVD drive built in.
USB drives are much more future-proof and far easier to use.
You simply plug the USB into your TV, computer or media player and press play.
We Prioritise Quality, Not Old Formats
Some companies still offer DVD copies because it sounds familiar — but to make everything fit, they often have to reduce the quality significantly.
At Video to Digital Conversions, we would rather preserve your memories properly than squeeze them onto an outdated format.
That means:
✔ Higher quality files
✔ Better compatibility with modern TVs
✔ Less compression✔ Safer long-term storage
So whis is Why We Don’t Copy Your Video Conversions to DVD
Your memories deserve better than being compressed to fit onto a DVD.
